About Floora de Wit

I started my career at Mattiske Consulting, like so many young botanists did and still do. At Mattiske I learned about adaptability to an ongoing work schedule, conducting back-to-back field programs, jarrah forest mapping, annual rehabilitation monitoring programs, data analysis for these same programs, and plant taxonomy from my favorite Bev Koch. My3+ something years was invaluable in shaping the botanist I am today. Although largely practical skills, it also taught me to be resilient and work with a dynamic interesting group of people. Fast forward a few years and I'm a Senior at AECOM as one half of a duo through the downturn. One botanist, one zoologist, taking on as many programs as we could to keep our jobs. Our technical skills grew as client expectations continued to rise. Floristic Community Type analysis starting being a prominent feature. Multiple-phase permanent quadrat scoring became a new standard. GIS mapping programs were readily available to inform detailed vegetation condition and community mapping. Fast forward again and I am the Team Leader for the Natural Resources team. Another amazing experience working with a dynamic group of ecologists, botanists and zoologists within a global organisation (still AECOM). Opportunities aplenty across Defence, private and public sectors. I am able to draw on experience across Australia to expand into the renewables space. Programs are everything from targeted flora, fauna and community searches, detailed baseline ecological programs, and complex ecological monitoring programs to detect changes over time and cause-effect relationships. I enjoy teaching others and leading by example to help develop everyone's best inner-ecologists.
