About Francesca Beccati

Graduated in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Perugia in 2007. The same year she won a PhD position in Equine Sciences, and defended the PhD thesis about comparison between radiography and ultrasonography for the diagnosis of osteochondrosis lesions of the stifle in Thoroughbred yearlings in 2011. During this period she based her training on orthopedics and diagnostic imaging, in particular on ultrasound and radiology, attending several courses in Italy, France and UK. In 2011 Francesca started the ISELP program directed by Prof. JM Denoix becoming a Certified Member in 2016. Since 2008 she has been working at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the University of Perugia, carrying out her clinical activity on referred cases for equine locomotor pathologies and poor athletic performance. Francesca is currently an associate professor in equine diagnostic imaging of the degree course in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Perugia. Her research activities are principally aimed at comparative equine diagnostic imaging, neck, back and pelvis injuries and orthopaedic and metabolic diseases of endurance horses. From 2017 to 2020 she did the residency of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (ACVSMR) and in 2021 became a Diplomate of the ACVSMR; in the same year, she passed the examination of the initial pathway of the ECVSMR. She is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewer publications in national and international journals. Ex-eventing rider, she loves to look at horses in sports activity and enjoy competition from the medical sport prospective. She loves to travel and to know and understand different cultures.
