About Fred Choy

Pioneer church planter with over 30 years of experience pastoring churches and contributing as a community leader. Engage as Board Member and Community Advocate (1988-Present) Currently serving on the Board for Tierra Nueva (New Earth), an ecumenical Christian ministry located in Burlington, Washington. Tierra Nueva seeks to share the good news of God’s freedom in Jesus Christ with the marginal community (immigrant, inmates, ex-offenders, the homeless) and mainstream people through its five ministries and dedicated to proclaiming the Good News of God's reign (on earth as it is in heaven) with the oppressed for our mutual liberation, healing, empowerment, and total salvation. Fred also serves as the President of Center for Global Urban Leadership focused on partnering with community leaders and innovators to bring positive change. Prior services include Board Advisor at Chaplaincy Program at Children’s Hospital in Seattle, Moderator of the Presbytery of Seattle (PCUSA); Board Member for Church Council of Greater Seattle; Consultant for Council on Korean-American Ministry at PCUSA; Clerk and Moderator for Coalition of Korean American Ministry at PCUSA, and Volunteer for King County Juvenile Services. Provide Leadership, Guidance, and Counsel as a Pastor (1986-2023) As the founder and Senior Pastor of Seattle Community Church (SCC) in the last 25 years, Fred has been responsible for planting and growing the ministry. Through his openness to all people, he has been able create a church culture that is welcoming to all people. Through his diverse network of connections, Seattle Community Church has been able to experience a wealth of speakers and impact ministries all over the world. Prior to founding SCC, Fred served as a founding Pastor of English Ministries at Korean Presbyterian Church of Seattle and Anaheim Korean Presbyterian Church, as well as the Youth Pastor at Korean Presbyterian Church of New Jersey. Enjoy Life After dedicating most of his career to ministering to the community, Fred currently enjoys his life as an empty nester with his wife, Jean, of 36 years, family, and friends. He continues his involvement in ministry projects and other works of passion.
