About Fredrick Gootkind
I am a recent graduate of the University of Rochester with a Bachelor's of Science in Cellular Biology and a Minor in Chemistry. I worked in the lab of Dr. Michael Welte at the University of Rochester, a D. melanogaster lab, as well as with other labs during my undergraduate studies, totaling 2.5 years of undergraduate lab experience. My work with Dr. Welte focused heavily on characterizing the function and movement of lipid droplets within D. melanogaster embryos using genetic techniques including vector insertion, PCR, electrophoresis gel techniques, and many others. During my time with the Welte lab, I was given primary responsibility for the study of the effects of different dosages of the protein Jabba on the positioning of lipid droplets throughout development. After graduation, I began working at Massachusetts General Hospital under Dr. Maria Troulis and Dr. Dahlene Fusco, where I worked both as a general-purpose research assistant. I then worked at Dana Farber Cancer Institute under Oliver Jonas. I am currently studying Bioinformatics at Northeastern University
