About Freya Snow

Hello! I am a 4th year student at Dalhousie University on track to graduate with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Marine Biology with Honours and Co-op. I have a particular interest in conservation and climate action. I have gained exceptional experience in research, data collection, and statistical analysis while being part of an active team as a research assistant at the Fisheries and Marine Institute’s (MI) Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Resources (CSAR). Through this position, I developed and am currently working on an Honour’s thesis with my supervisors, Dr. Paul Winger and Dr. Tomas Araya-Schmidt. My thesis evaluates performance testing of the Time-Tension Line Cutter (TTLC), a novel device that has promising potential to mitigate North Atlantic Right Whale (NARW) Entanglements in deepwater, fixed-gear Canadian fisheries. Though various job experience such as SuperNOVA at Dalhousie, the Discovery Centre, and as a lifeguard/aquatic instructor, I have great experience working with and educating youth in my community and have excellent science communication skills. As a volunteer for the Dartmouth SPCA, I also have a passion for animals and their care, including those of aquatic nature. Through Working at the Discovery Centre, I gained experience working with saltwater aquariums and the various instruments used to maintain water quality.
