About Gareth Benson

I am a published author, commercial and Intellectual Property lawyer, lecturer and keynote presenter. I have most recently delivered workshops in Contract Law, Digital Innovation and Intellectual Property for Charles Darwin and RMIT University. A practicing lawyer I have been appointed on a number of Boards including The Youth Mill assisting indigenous education in the NT, and served for 2 years as Board Director of Melbourne Metropolitan College (MMC). I am currently an Executive Board Member of Kangaroo Global (operating in 10 countries worldwide) and on the Dance for abilities board as an advisor. I am admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria. As a qualified commercial and Intellectual property lawyer, I assist in the protection and commercialisation of new Ideas. With unique commercial skills I offer an inspired outlook to the creation and leveraging of intangible assets, known as Intellectual Property. This includes Trademarks, Patents, Designs and Copyright. My post-graduate qualifications in digital marketing and content production also allow me to advise on the use of emerging technologies in order to leverage content for commercial gain in digital, web and content industries. I capitalise on my corporate and government agency experience (CSIRO, SBS Television, ACMI, DEWR) to exercise leadership skills for clients who wish to commercialise and leverage their Intellectual Property. I have drafting experience in the development of commercial agreements, shareholders agreements, licensing, and intellectual property registrations. I maintain an active client base and enjoy advising creative, startups and commercially successful entrepreneurial clients including Property Developers. I am passionate about how education will shape the future of work and actively work with students and entrepreneurs in the Gig economy. I firmly believe that ideas are our identity and excited about the prospect of protecting Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property (ICIP) that recognises a united Australian Identity.
