About Gary Teele

I’ve grown up with sports around me my entire life. I was 10 years old fascinated by the ideas of analytics, trades, free-agent signing, and more. I used to wake up early on weekends and instead of turning on cartoons, I would turn on MLB network. I printed out papers that showed all the free agents on the market, along with their previous season stats. I would look at positions and teams and analyzed what I felt they needed. I watched videos of people working with statistics, and how everything was calculated. I started getting myself familiar with things such as salary caps, and how the business side all worked. I pretended to be a general manager and would predict where I thought players would sign, and what kind of deal. I felt a thrill whenever I would be correct, this was when I knew my love for sports was truly a passion. Since then I was able to continue learning about the world of sports through working as an umpire for my local little league, playing my fair share of sports including baseball, basketball, soccer, and working as part of my high school’s athletic program. I created videos for my school that were used to advertise for big games and would help market them on campus. Since coming to ASU, I’ve been able to use my knowledge of sports by joining clubs such as 942 crew where I express my love for sports with others, and Sports Analytics Association (SAA), where I have been able to learn a lot more about analytics and programs such as python. I have competed in a competition called the Big Data Bowl, and during the process, was able to see a different perspective on sports. I have significantly advanced my professional expertise as a box office assistant at ASU, working with ticket operations. Throughout my tenure, I've engaged with numerous collegiate-level departments, fostering a comprehensive understanding of the sports industry. Collaborating with exceptional colleagues has not only deepened my insight but has also honed my communication skills. I've adeptly navigated industry-standard software such as Arctics and Ticket Master, showcasing my technical proficiency and adaptability. This familiarity positions me as a valuable asset, given the widespread use of these tools in the field. Furthermore, my time in this role has been instrumental in refining my problem-solving abilities, an essential skill in a dynamic work environment.
