About Gemma Goodyear

I feel privileged to work as an Educator, Principal and Consultant of learning/change. I have worked in Education for 20 years. I currently sit in my 5th year of my PhD and 8th year of Principalship after 10 years of Deputy Principal/ Literacy coach / Learning and Teaching coach. I am currently the Lead Principal of two primary schools in the North of Melbourne. I’m a passionate Educator, hoping to change some of the previous narratives around ‘schooling’. My hope is to lead and build contextual/progressive learning environments. This for me doesn’t fit a ‘robot’ look for Education and requires challenging yet exciting times and strong transformation processes. Nothing excites me more than problem solving with others, rumbling, challenging ideas, creating ideas, supporting ideas, setting high standards and creating agile sprints to reach goals and continuous improvement. Leading, learning and being with others has always allowed me to enter trusting coaching situations to ensure personal and professional growth. This approach has enabled strategic change processes to be successful and to safe guard and strengthen relationships. So. all in all. I continually ask myself to be brave. To be vulnerable. To lead with empathy, compassion and love, to learn with openness and listening.
