Background
About Gemma Griffiths
I am a highly motivated Arts Leader, Educator, Creative Producer and Facilitator across cultural initiatives, formal and non-formal education, performances and events. As a specialist who has a passion for, and track record of creative learning across dance and the arts, I produce experiences that challenge traditional learning; collaborating with communities, artists, and specialists to transform a space through performance, engagement and immersive experiences. As a Director of Expressive Arts (secondary school, further & higher education), I successfully built partnerships and departments across various art forms & disciplines to enable young people and emerging artists of all backgrounds to develop their creative talent and establish careers in the arts sector. I am currently working as a Creative Producer at East London Dance, an Education and Community Engagement consultant for Uchenna Dance & Storey Consulting and, recently, a Creative Associate for Jeanefer Jean Charles. I am an Inner Compass Facilitator and Coach offering workshops and coaching to young people, leaders & teachers in education and arts organisations; empowering them to connect with their inner strength, understand their needs and nurture their identity. As a co-chair of Dance, Learning & Participation Network Group (previously known as Dance Educators Group), an advisory board member to Uchenna Dance and working to help Decolonise the Dance Curriculum as a member of the One Dance UK round table, I invite artists, arts organisations and local residents interested in building connections to enable communities to thrive through the joy of play, creation, representation, and wellbeing. I work closely with Wellbeing entrepreneurs & social responsibility programmes to develop wellbeing & mental health. I completed ‘Artistic Business Success for Visionary Women’ with Vicki Igbokwe, completed Startup Leadership and continue to development my practice as a Wellbeing Lister, Facilitator and Coach to support the education and arts sector. I earned my PGCE and Masters Credits with The Royal Academy of Dance and trained as a dancer at Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
