I have been in the biotech industry since 1991. Before founding Angelica, I was a founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Abgenix, Inc, a highly successful public company devoted to the discovery of antibody therapeutics. Over the course of ten years, Abgenix grew from a startup of 40 people to an industry leader with over 500 employees. Abgenix was acquired by Amgen in 2006 for $2.7B. Angiocrine Bioscience focuses on advancing therapeutic, diagnostic and research applications through the development of a cellular platform for amplifying stem and progenitor cells, both human and mouse. Our area of expertise is in the purification and subsequent expansion of a vast array of mouse and human endothelial cells in vitro. Our proprietary technology generates endothelial cells - which we have named ‘VeraVecs’ - that are no longer dependent on irreducibly complex additives typically used for endothelial cell cultures. These cells can be passaged usefully 3-5 as many times as their naïve counterparts while simultaneously offering a more consistent phenotype and maintenance of the endothelial cell state.
