About Giulio Matteucci

I’m a quantitative problem-solver with over 10 years of experience applying data-driven methods to understand that complex system we call the brain. My toolkit spans machine learning, statistics, neurophysiology, and behavioural analysis. Starting out as a physics student, I became fascinated by how information is processed in biological systems. This passion led me to pursue a PhD in Neuroscience at SISSA with Prof. Davide Zoccolan, where I used in vivo electrophysiology, behavioural experiments, and computational modelling to study shape and motion processing in the rat visual cortex. For the past five years, as a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Sami El-Boustani’s lab at the University of Geneva, I’ve focused on multisensory integration and decision-making in mice. Using multiscale calcium imaging, optogenetics, and advanced data analysis, I’ve developed expertise in large-scale data handling and mathematical modelling of neural and behavioural data. My passion lies at the intersection of data science, machine learning, and neuroscience, where I aim to drive innovation through cross-disciplinary research that bridges biology and technology.
