About Grace Gardner

I am currently a Public Health Practitioner working as the Public Involvement and Engagement Lead within the Health Determinants Research Collaboration in Newcastle Upon Tyne I have a PhD in Population Health Sciences from Newcastle University, and a 2.1 (Hons) classification in my BSc Food Marketing and Nutrition degree, also from Newcastle University I have had a year’s experience in working in a commercial food company. As Development Assistant I was involved in a wide range of work involving production processes, research, marketing, customer interface, presentation, public promotion and product development. I was also awarded a University Research Scholarship and worked in Singapore, carrying out research into the potential for developing nutritional products using seaweed. I spent three months as an embedded researcher within Newcastle City Council’s Public Health department, on a post-submission scholarship scheme awarded by Newcastle University. This was a welcome opportunity to increase my understanding of the challenges of developing and delivering public health policy initiatives in areas where health inequalities are prevalent and where collaborative working is key to success in tackling the range of health determinants which contribute to the well being of communities. More recently I was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York, working on a project called FixOurFood. I primarily focussed on regenerative healthy eating by young children, through 'FixOurFood in Schools', working with primary schools across Yorkshire aiming to ensure the healthiest, tastiest and most sustainable school meal choice is the easiest choice for all.
