About Greg Blount

I have practiced environmental law from the early days of this specialty and served as the first general counsel of Georgia’s Department of Natural Resources and its Environmental Protection Division. As a partner at KMCL Law, I focus on environmental law and policy matters, including related civil litigation and enforcement issues in state and federal courts across the U.S. With more than forty years of experience, I represent corporate, industrial, and trade association clients on complex environmental challenges. My practice encompasses a range of issues related to hazardous waste compliance and policy at federal and state levels, with extensive work on emerging contaminants such as PFAS. I've developed long-term working relationships advising retail chains, including pharmacies, on hazardous waste compliance, alleged unfair business practices related to consumer protection and pesticides, and regulatory reform in states like California, Minnesota, and Connecticut. My understanding of both regulatory and business perspectives stems from my early career as a state assistant attorney general and general counsel to Georgia's Department of Natural Resources. This dual background has helped develop effective consensus for environmental statutes, administrative rules, and enforcement related to hazardous waste and water quality. My policy advocacy includes extensive work with U.S. EPA headquarters and OMB regarding new rule making for hazardous waste pharmaceuticals. I represent clients across numerous industries, including retail, manufacturing, and poultry processing. My environmental counselling has involved extensive negotiations in 14 states and Washington D.C. Local governments have also turned to me for counsel on water supply issues, including the complex multidistrict "Tri-State Water Wars" litigation between Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. Throughout my career, I've maintained valued relationships as environmental counsel for the Georgia Association of Manufacturers and Georgia Poultry Federation. I regularly speak on hazardous waste and environmental issues at national and state conferences and seminars across the U.S. I earned my J.D. from Mercer University School of Law and my undergraduate degree from the University of North Georgia as its first Foundation Scholar.
