Background

About Gregg Your

A native of Ohio, Gregg spent ten years as an award-winning Navy public affairs professional working in print, photojournalism, broadcast and media operations. He managed large scale public affairs operations on aircraft carriers and in humanitarian operations at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He also oversaw broadcasting operations for the Naval Media Center overseas, leaving active duty in 1998. After his active duty service, he worked in the commercial information technology industry on the staff of Canon Information Technology Systems. He then joined the Cox Communications interactive media division, developing and improving the presentation of news and information for a nationwide network of over thirty locally-focused Web sites. For over a year, he was the director for news and sports content for the site rated number one in the Hampton Roads, Va. market. As a key player in the network’s interactive coverage of the attack on USS Cole, he led the news content effort yielding the single largest day of Web news traffic on the Cox network prior to 9/11. Additionally, he redesigned and managed the Norfolk Tides Web Site for the season, turning it in to one of the top Triple A team sites in America according to USAToday’s Baseball Weekly. Elements of that design are still in use today. Gregg returned to work for the government in early 2001 as the driving force behind the redesign and expansion of U.S. Joint Forces Command’s (USJFCOM) web presence. Consistently improved through redesign and addition of new capabilities, the site was recognized formally and informally by numerous government and media organizations as a forward-thinking example of the way to tell a complex story in a clear, coherent fashion. He continues to be sought out by other communicators for his advice regarding social media and effective digital communication. After USJFCOM's disestablishment in 2011 and a short stint with The Joint Staff, Gregg joined the State Department's International Information Programs Bureau, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Bureau's four major English language social media properties, all of which had over 2 million fans around the globe. Starting in the summer of 2014, he also oversaw web sites and social media platforms in Russian, Spanish, French, Chinese, Persian, Portuguese, Urdu and Arabic. Gregg assumed his current duties in July 2015. These duties include supervising and managing all elements of USAID's external website and internal intranet, mobilizing the full range of appropriate and relevant online communications tools.
