Background
About Hannah Gilson
During my time at Denison University, I served as a Political Science and Economics Fellow combining my interest in political systems with the study of development economics. Driven by a desire to contribute to the formulation of equitable, socially-just and sustainable public policy, areas of research included education policy, disparities in global vaccine distribution, bail reform, the impact of crises on economic development, and barriers to mental healthcare access in the United States. My interest in development policy, particularly in the area of education, led me to apply for a Fulbright grant to Bulgaria, where I currently serve as a second-year English Teaching Assistant in Silistra. In this capacity, I teach English to grades 8-12 while additionally engaging in community outreach, coordinating programming for grantees related to cultural adaptation, and volunteering as a coach and judge for English speech and debate competitions targeting Bulgarian youth with the aim of enhancing their skills in critical thinking and creative expression.
