About Harri Taylor

Hi / Shwmae!I am a senior software engineer at SIMBA Chain, where I work as part of a globally distributed remote team on the core product. I have 10 years total experience of software development in both academic research and startup/enterprise settings. My principal responsibilities and interests currently focus on domain-driven design, test-driven development, and DevOps. I am primarily within the Python ecosystem, but the free nature of work at SIMBA Chain means I also have some experience with Typescript, Docker, Kubernetes, and Golang.Previously I have completed ~3 years of PhD-level research which involved a significant amount of time working with research codebases in order to experiment and validate research ideas. My project was entitled "Multi-modal explainable AI for situational awareness". I enjoy working with audio (both recording music and more experimental creative coding projects), so I naturally tended towards working on machine listening systems. I contributed an open-source port from TensorFlow to PyTorch of a popular audio recognition deep learning model (https://github.com/harritaylor/torchvggish), which has been used as part of experiments for a larger research project this time I authored a paper for multi-modal deep learning explanations which was accepted into the 2020 23rd International Conference on Information Fusion and was awarded a DAIS-ITA award for student-led achievement as a result. Outside of work I enjoy:• creative coding of graphics and audio using Processing & Supercollider 🤖• walking and getting lost in the Welsh countryside 󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿• making music with any instrument I can get a noise out of • spending time with my two kittens ‍
