About Heather Seaman

I am an experienced Mental Health Counselor with a demonstrated history of working in the mental health, criminal justice, and developmental disability fields. I am passionately committed to utilizing my skills to create change in our country, to work towards equity and justice for all. Many of our systems are broken and I am determined to maximize my experience in the field to create change, specifically, but not exclusively to the juvenile justice system. I enjoy thinking outside of the box. Highlights of my experience:Formed trusting relationships with adolescents diagnosed with PTSD and other co-occurring diagnoses, to assist them with getting closure for the incidents that had happened to them. Created systems to ensure safety for all of the residents and staff in the facility. Co-facilitated substance use group therapy. Attended court with youth to ensure they understood the proceedings and to assist them in making informed decisions. Supervised 6 other counselors and provided initial & ongoing training, and evaluations. Skilled in Supervising, Trauma Informed Care, Creative Mental Health Counseling, Criminal Justice, and Compassionate Care for Challenging Populations. Strong and determined human service professional with a Bachelor of Arts - BA focused in Psychology and Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from University of Hartford. Additional skills in organization, attention to detail, proof reading, and empathy.
