About Heather Tasker

I am an Assistant Professor cross-appointed to the Department of Political Science and the Law, Justice & Society Program at Dalhousie University. My research explores gendered violence in conflict-affected contexts through the lenses of transitional justice, human rights, and in/security. In collaboration with community-based partners, I have studied forced marriage in conflict, peacekeeper-perpetrated sexual exploitation and abuse, and the rights and needs of children born as a result of CRSV. Ongoing projects explore how forced displacement and access to support services impact legal decision-making in the DRC; tracks the inclusion of gendered violence survivors in justice mechanisms in Liberia and North East Nigeria; and examines the relationship between gender-based violence and forced displacement in the DRC and South Sudan. I have the privilege of working with undergraduate and graduate students at Dalhousie studying in the areas of law & politics, socio-legal studies, and international relations.
