Dr. Jesse Ronquillo, a multi-awarded aquaculture scientist, is a Canadian educator, researcher and extension worker. His aquaculture technologies are featured in professional websites worldwide. His expertise includes hatchery production and aquatic husbandry of marine and freshwater finfish, shellfish, and algae. He finished B.Sc. Fisheries/Aquaculture degree as a cum laude; obtained M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Japan as a Monbusho (Japanese Ministry of Education) Scholar; and awarded Fellowships by JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), Fulbright, NSERC and UNESCO in Japan, USA, Canada, and China, respectively. He taught aquaculture courses in Asia and Canadian universities. Under United Nations (FAO, UNDP, UNESCO), he was an aquaculture trainer of many international aquaculture officers. He joined DFO/UBC Centre for Aquaculture and Environmental Research in 2004 as NSERC Fellow; then, was hired as Assistant/Associate Professor at Nova Scotia Agricultural College (2007 to 2012). He has been an Adjunct Professor of Dalhousie University and External Thesis Examiner of Memorial University of Newfoundland. He participated international conferences/meetings as resource person, organizer/chair/co-chair of scientific sessions. He has been a peer-reviewer of reputable international journals and a referee/evaluator of research projects submitted to NSERC, AIF/ACOA, and U.S. SeaGrant Program. He has assisted many entrepreneurs and organizations to improve commercial aquaculture production of finfish and shellfish. Lately, he was hired by Viva Aquaculture and Seafood Distribution Ltd, as Chief Aquaculture Scientist/Consultant to train staff and to set up recirculating aquaculture system and aquaponics facility within a large greenhouse to culture finfish and shellfish. He has been affiliated with the University of British Columbia participating in many important academic and research activities. He was a faculty member for Aquaculture at North Island College and Vancouver Island University. As an Adjunct Professor at Dalhousie University, he is participating in an international project to improve seafood production for food security and food safety.
