About Heidi Schmidt

I am a Human Resources Management professional seeking a return to full-time career-focused employment. I am experienced in process improvement, and skilled in employee relations as a thorough information-gatherer and persistent, bold, empathetic communicator. I was recruited out of grad school by Dynegy, Inc, to work as an HR generalist, where I learned to manage all aspects of the employee life cycle. I was in high demand for cross-functional teams due to my detailed focus on efficiencies and boldness in asking pertinent questions. My design and implementation of various policies and processes improved company compliance, and I established an excellent working relationship with the managers and directors to whom I provided support, leading to my promotion to Senior Generalist. The division of Dynegy, Inc. which I supported was eventually sold to Targa Resources, Inc, and all support personnel were a part of the sale. I continued in that same role until my resignation due to finding a more preferred employer at Mustang Engineering, LP. At Mustang, I continued to develop and implement guidelines and create HR-specific trainings. My liaising with management increased, resulting in being invited to discuss and determine employment best practices. I completed a number of highly sensitive employee investigations, and became involved in the immigration process of work visas and permits, as the US talent pool wasn't deep enough to meet company needs. I was promoted to Manager and given a team of generalists to lead, and would have continued this career path happily, but the birth of our special-needs son and a significant career change for my husband ultimately resulted in a move across the country, necessitating my resignation from Mustang. After a life-changing six years, our son passed away, and the next few years were spent recovering and healing from that loss. After a year or two I began getting involved in volunteer work, teaching a variety of church classes, learning various roles in theater productions, and taking leadership of Advent Tea, a women-only annual event which drew over 400 participants per year. Eventually I started working a simple administrative role to put a toe back in world of work, and after our move to Saginaw I stepped into teaching, directing plays, and significantly improving the visual technology usage for our church services. Now, I'm ready to return to HR, with a much improved set of life experiences and skills, making me a far more valuable employee than I was all those years ago. I look forward to this!
