About Helen Post

I was born in 1990 in a small Estonian town called Pärnu where I went to school and made my first steps towards a more intellectual future. At the age of 19 (2009) I finished high school and continued my studies at the University of Tartu where I specialised in genetic engineering🧬. In 2011 I joined the Chair of Evolutionary Biology (University of Tartu) where I defended both my bachelor's (2012) and master's thesis (2014). After that I continued with my PhD studies and in 2020 I defended my thesis and received my degree. During my university years, I worked on several very interesting projects involving different aspects of populations genetics. I familiarised myself with various populations and their distant past. I saw through the lens of genetics how people have interacted with each other throughout history and how it has shaped the World we live in today. This work is why I fell in love with science and research🧫🩺. Although, I felt that being a scientist is not really for me, I could not give up on my love for all things scientific. That is why I work as a Research Funding Officer at the Estonian Research Council. Today I help researchers with funding and managing their amazing R&D projects. I get to see first hand how capable and word class Estonian researchers and research really is and this brings me immense joy.
