About Hend Eltanamly

I study how families adapt when life takes them through extraordinary transitions. My research asks questions like: How does parenting change when safety is no longer taken for granted? What happens to family dynamics when parents and children rebuild their lives in new cultural contexts? How do young people shape their identities while navigating both adolescence and displacement? My work focuses on parents and youth who have experienced trauma, migration, and multiple life transitions. I aim to understand not only the challenges they face, but also the ways families can foster resilience and growth. To answer these questions, I design and conduct rigorous studies using advanced methods such as meta-analytic structural equation modeling, meta-synthesis, grounded theory, and dynamic longitudinal approaches. I often integrate quantitative and qualitative findings to capture the full complexity of family life in adversity. Beyond research, I am deeply committed to teaching and mentoring. At the Utrecht University, I teach courses at the BSc and MSc levels, supervise master’s and doctoral students and guide early career researchers in developing strong methodological and analytical skills. I am passionate about connecting with people from diverse backgrounds, whether researchers, practitioners, or families themselves, to translate knowledge into meaningful impact.
