Background
About Ian Maxwell
I am head of Aviation Section, Tourism Division, at the Department for the Economy NI. I am responsible for developing air connectivity policy, working with key stakeholders including the UK Department for Transport, Invest NI, Tourism Ireland and NI airports. I spent two decades in the Department for Infrastructure working in both the Roads Agency and Water Policy Division in secretariat and legislation roles where I specialised in information access and communications. As a social historian I have written a number of books on Irish and Scottish genealogy and history including Everyday Life in Nineteenth Century Ireland and Tracing Scottish Ancestors. My most recent publication is Victorian Era Ireland (November 2023). I am the editor of soccerhistory.co.uk a website dedicated to the history of football, preserving stories and memorabilia contributed by football fans.
