About Igor Lopes

With over nine years of experience in agricultural and biological engineering research and innovation, I am a senior consultant and part of SPI's international team. I have experience in national and international projects in the areas of innovation, research, and sustainability. I graduated as an agricultural engineer from UNICAMP in Brazil in 2008 and gained eight years of experience in the USA (2009-2017). During this time, I worked directly with companies in the poultry and dairy production sectors while developing my academic work alongside university/industry interaction activities. This resulted in academic contributions and support for related companies through workshops and guidance on energy efficiency and sustainability. After my experience in the USA, I spent six months in Australia collaborating on a project at the University of Melbourne aimed at reducing losses in the pig production industry. Since moving to Portugal in 2017, I have accumulated experience in consulting, data analysis and statistical planning, scientific communication, and projects focused on innovation and development. I hold a master's degree from the University of Kentucky (2012) and a Ph.D. from Purdue University (2018), both in the United States.
