About Indrek Talpsep

In brief: A senior-level sustainability professional with a good understanding of sustainability issues across different sectors and within an international context. My approach to leadership in sustainability is about systems thinking, courage to embrace vulnerability, ability to engage and collaborate with different stakeholders with different value systems, and cultural sensitivity - all enabling teams to reach their goals. In detail: One of my strongest attributions both in professional and private life is open-minded but critical thinking. I systematically think through problems and challenges that come up, examining things from all sides, considering all possibilities, and checking my facts before making decisions. This keeps my focus on the important and makes me avoid impulsive or short-sighted actions. For the past few years, I have put a lot of effort into developing my leadership skills. While I am a strong team player and supporter of a collaborative approach to problem-solving, I am comfortable in taking the lead and influencing others to take action and reach goals. I am able to assume responsibility for the team's success and challenges, but I empower everyone to be involved and foster a climate of trust and commitment. I like to preserve harmony within a team and increase people's self-value and thus tend to stay away from micro-management. I am an avid supporter of the growth mindset and like the saying,"We rise by lifting others." Another of my signature strengths is authenticity or integrity. I can be described with the phrase,"What you see is what you get." I stick to my core values and align my actions with them. I am truthful, keep my promises and commitments, and am genuine in my interactions. Sometimes I might come across as straightforward, but at the same time, I have a highly developed emotional intelligence and sense of empathy. I respect other people and expect the same in return. I am typically viewed as a trustworthy person by others, creating and maintaining healthy and positive relationships. This includes developing effective relationships in the workplace as well as across the spectrum of different stakeholders.
