Background

About Jackie Dang

I currently live in Japan and working as an English teacher as various locations. The background of some of my students are; company workers, jr. high school and high school students, college students, and government workers. I'm highly adaptable in what kind of lessons I teach and tailor the lessons to the student's needs and wants. I graduated from San Jose State University (SJSU) with a Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL, May 2016) and a Bachelor’s in Linguistics (May 2014). With degrees in TESOL and linguistics, I strongly believe that I have a better understanding on how to effectively teach others about the English language and various problems that second language learners may have learning the target language. During my practicum at Evergreen Community College, I was able to effectively teach lesson plans utilizing various forms of media to convey meaning and understanding to my students. I have also volunteered at SJSU IGateways program as a conversation partner with Kyushu University students (August 2012-December 2014) and as a tutor/conversation partner through the Language and Cultural Exchange (LACE, August 2013-December 2015) program. I also have tutored various international students studying English at SJSU. My commitment to hard work, empathy for others and effective communication skills are personal characteristics, which distinguishes me as an individual. I am a constructive team player and enjoy working with others. It is because of my friendly, amiable, and outgoing personality that I get along very well with my colleagues and friends.
