Background

About Jacob Holster

My work focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence into teaching, learning, research, and making processes. I am also interested in relationally situated perspectives on motivation for music participation. I teach coursework related to music teacher preparation, including a capstone course for students who hope to become high school band directors. I enjoy advising undergraduate and graduate students' research projects, theses, and dissertations, and teaching graduate level coursework that supports music teacher education and methodological development. My research agenda, which touches on issues like music teacher attrition, student motivation and well-being, and the use of AI in music education, have been published in Update: Applications of Research in Music Education, Music Educators Journal, Psychology of Music, Arts Education Policy Review, Qualitative Research in Music Education, and the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education. I serve on the editorial board of Contributions to Music Education and am a faculty affiliate with the Penn State Institute for Computational Data Science. I enjoy interdisciplinary work, welcome collaboration, and aim to develop communities of practice and inquiry through my teaching and research.
