About Jacob Thomas

I am an analytical/materials scientist with 20+ years of experience in heritage materials science. Through various research and development projects, I have performed and led research in materials characterisation, process control and degradation testing and undertaken analytical method and instrument development. I am interested in challenging measurements, those that push the limits of the instrument as well as the scientist. I thrive in a work environment that requires creative experiment design to work with challenging samples, to increase sensitivity and to exclude interference to thereby solve complex analytical problems and answer the questions posed by my clients. Through my professional activities across academic, public and private sectors, I have gained valuable experience both in performing and leading research as well as in project management. I have demonstrated that I am able to strategically package and communicate my message (analysis results, recommendations etc.) to stakeholders within and external to my area of expertise to build collaborations between academia and industry and enable technology transfer and commercialisation. I am looking for new challenges and a new field of inquiry where I can further develop as a analytical/materials chemist while positively impacting society.
