About Jacques Stoltz

I’m a development planner and economist with over twenty years of experience in developing sustainable, place-based economies. My work is guided by a humanistic approach to development and finding ways to unlock the potential of places and communities within global south contexts. I’m acutely concerned with the challenges of poverty, climate crisis, and social injustice. My career has been mostly focussed on research, planning, and policy advice for economic development. Much of this has been in the fields of tourism, urban regeneration, the creative and cultural industries, infrastructure, and skills development. I’m also an all-round manager of teams having served in senior management capacity in the public sector and as project manager of large (and small) consulting teams. I previously served as director of Better Tourism Africa and was former chairperson of the Heritage Association of South Africa. I’m an amateur urban photographer currently living in Cape Town.
