About Jake Schuknecht

Growing up I had no idea what I wanted to do. After high school I went to the University of Guelph for two years for computer science; then I want to Brock University for Sport Management; now I'm finishing up my MBA with a specialization in accounting. While my path is anything but conventional, I've developed some key skills along the way and learned what I like to do: help people. As I enter this new stage of my career, here are a few of my personal highlights I've picked up along the way. Communication is Key: 9 years in the non-profit sport sector has taught me the value of communication. Whether it's with an athlete, a parent, or a passionate fan, clear and concise communication makes a world of difference, always. Time Management: There are few who can say they worked full time while attending university full time. Then there are people like me who did it with a new born. Suffice to say, managing time was non-negotiable and I can schedule my way out of a hurricane. Versatility: Working at a small non-profit with a national mandate meant I had my fingers in all pots at various times. From marketing and communications, to fundraising and donations, to player development and high performance, changing gears throughout the day became second nature. What you can learn from a marketing project that you can take with you to a coaching session and then pass on to a budgeting meeting is hard to quantify how quickly the lessons and learnings transfer. Despite my unconventional career path, I'm eager to start my new career in accounting and bring with me the lessons I've learned thus far.
