About James Hudson

Specialist interests in Māori and indigenous analytics, governance systems and project development. As Principal at Waiora Systems, I’ve consulted to a wide range of public sector agencies, Maori, indigenous and non-government organisations building data capability, performance measurement frameworks, and co-designed programmes of work. I am passionate about bringing specialist capabilities and organisations together, using my unique, systems-based approaches to create and facilitate shared visions. I apply high-quality analytical skills with a strong set of strategy-shaping, problem-solving and communication skills. My wide analytical experience across diverse roles helps me intuit linkages between areas and incorporate those insights into strategic thinking and change. Highlights to date include consulting to the Treasury to iterate He Ara Waiora, a Māori wellbeing frame designed to, along with the Living Standards Framework, measure system-wide performance against Māori outcomes. I’ve also led the development of integrated Māori wellbeing indicators (Stats NZ), implemented a Māori-specific evaluation and monitoring framework (IMSB), and reported data on Māori wellbeing and contribution in Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland Council). A strong quantitative skillset with expertise in Māori-centric and indigenous data approaches and analytics designed for indigenous realities.
