About James Monohan

With over 12 years of experience working as a video producer, editor, cinematographer, and/or director for top-rated TV shows, well-known magazine sites, and familiar commercial brands, James has enjoyed the variety of wearing multiple hats and working with budgets of all sizes. It all began when James first certified is geek cred by writing a 700-page book on video editing which still has a 5-star rating on Amazon. Fast forward over a decade: Recent projects include co-creating, directing, and writing an original comedy pilot for a major cable network. Other directing gigs have gone viral, with one ad campaign labeled as "viral marketing genius"​ by CNBC's "On the Money"​ show. As an editor, James has cut such hit shows as MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEEN (MTV), PAWN STARS (History Channel) and WATCH WHAT HAPPENS LIVE (Bravo). As a producer/shooter/editor, he has created compelling documentary, scripted, comedy, and promotional content for a wide range of clients and brands, including political campaigns, TheaterMania, Axe, Gillette, Lifelock, Burger King, Harper Collins, Maxim magazine, the USTA, Elle magazine, the NBA, Elizabeth Arden, and more. As a narrative cinematographer, James continues to shoot web series for talented up-and-coming creators, including 47 SECRETS TO A YOUNGER YOU, which was recently nominated for Best Cinematography by the Brooklyn Web fest. In his spare time, James directs New York theater and produces a popular podcast for writers and fans of quality story craft called THE NARRATIVE BREAKDOWN (iTunes).
