About Jamie A. Becker

About Me: As a passionate educator, researcher, and doctoral candidate, I bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the field of education. Currently, I serve as a dedicated Teacher-Librarian in a high school setting, with a focus on fostering collaboration with my staff and enriching educational experiences for all students in my school.Professional Journey: My journey in education began as a substitute teacher and then as an elementary teacher, took a detour into corporate America as an Instructional Designer, and eventually led me back to the classroom as an elementary school librarian. For the past nine years, I've thrived in the dynamic role of a high school teacher-librarian. This diverse background has shaped my understanding of effective teaching methodologies and the vital role of information literacy in today's education landscape.Doctoral Pursuits: Recently completed my qualifying exams and am now a doctoral candidate at Emporia State University. I am dedicated to advancing my knowledge in the field. My research focuses on school librarianship, community social capital as it relates to the school library, book banning/censorship and its effects on school librarians, as well as how libraries play a role in genealogical information seeking. My ultimate goal is becoming a research practitioner in the realm of school librarianship and researcher of family history/genealogy in libraries. Eventually (meaning a few years down the road) I hope to work at a university imparting my knowledge on to the next generation of librarians.
