About Jan Haughey

I'm now enjoying my 18th year as chair of the Scholastic Media Association and am excited about it's potential(formerly Media Educators of America and Video Educators of New England). The Steering Committee of Media Educators of America met over the summer to formulate plans and the direction of the organization. We determined that a name change was due and rebranding needed. Our new name, Scholastic Media Association Northeast, better represents the organization we now are. In recent times we've made a push to include students in our events and removing "educators" and replacing it with "scholastic" addresses that change. It is a group meeting the professional needs of media and broadcast educators and students from the public and private schools and educational access. The 17th annual Fall Convention was held October 17, 2014 at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner, MA. It featured a rich educational track and the BYOG student competition. We recently hosted a Broadcast BootCamp Intensive featuring Apple Distinguished Educator Don Goble on the Curry College campus. We have also begun offering the Certificate on Media Education program with our long time partner Mount Wachusett Community College.
