About Jan Prasens

I have extensive experience leading, growing and delivering value in international businesses. I have particular expertise dealing with VIP and high net worth clientele and am a firm advocate of a client-based approach to account management. My career has been international, working with colleagues and other stakeholders from many cultural and geographical backgrounds. I have lived and worked in London and New York and have travelled around the world throughout my life, for professional and leisure reasons. I’m really proud of what was achieved during my time with Sotheby’s. The Financial Services division, historically a niche part of the business, was transformed under my stewardship as Managing Director, and remains a highly successful contributor to the group, offering excellent services to clients. As MD, Europe and Middle East, I led major change that modernised this complex business region and built a sustainable platform for the future, including new digital propositions, categories and growth markets. Throughout my career, I have been able to combine the legacy of tradition with strong business principles, the introduction of new technology and clear leadership, achieving transformation and improvement in both the client experience and business performance. I set the bar high, striving for excellence myself as well as expecting a lot from my team. I’m a firm believer in fairness and mutual respect; I have strong EQ and use these skills in a professional environment – understanding people is a huge factor in successful influencing, negotiating and problem solving. Art and Luxury Goods hold a strong fascination for me. I have been a speaker at multiple international art conferences in New York, Shanghai, Geneva and Dubai. In addition to my professional links with the sector, I have a deep appreciation of the skill, craftsmanship and history associated with it and am now a keen art collector myself.
