About Jaycelene Borras

Hello! My name is Jaycelene Borras (you can call me Jaycee for short). I am a mother of a 6-year-old son, and I am currently studying in my final year of Human Resources Advanced Diploma at Durham College. Meanwhile, being a full-time parent, it was difficult for me to figure out the outcome of my career path for the better of my son’s future. Prior to becoming a parent, I had the opportunity to take a co-op program during my high-school education. I took that opportunity and gained experience with Music Teaching because music was a passion of mine growing up. However, after having experienced that, I then realized that it wasn't something I truly wanted to pursue. So, the hunt for a new career path began. Overtime, I started to notice my interest in helping others. It all started with my grandparents who were close to reaching the age of retirement. They struggled to find jobs, so they came to me for help. They handed me their resumes for revisioning and did some job searching, and in that moment, I envisioned myself in the Human Resources field of practice. Moving forward, I have never stopped continuing to find opportunities for opened doors related to Human Resources or roles that would help me get one step closer to the future that I desire to have for my son and I. During the year of 2022, I worked at CNE and started my position as a Ticket Seller. In the following year of 2023, I took the opportunity to start a new position at CNE as a Gate Supervisor. This 2024 year, I worked my way up at CNE and gained the Human Resources Coordinator position. Within a span of 3 years, I shown my dedication which allowed me to foster my soft skills with my leadership, teamwork, work ethic, and creativity, as well as my hard skills with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, recruitment and selection, training and development, and equity, diversity and inclusion. As I retain my consistency of seeking opportunities, the growth within my work-life helped me further enhance my daily knowledge, time management skills, organization, creativity, and self-motivation. Having a constant self-reminder of the words, “Never give up!” resonates with me as it gave me the encouragement to keep striving. I encourage those who are starting their journey of education or career, to try and live on the words, “Never give up!”.
