About Jean-Robert Lalancette

I am a passionate wine and spirits professional with an interest in developing my career in buying and market research as well as keeping in touch often with my sales and communication skills. I believe that the term 'passion' is often misused on conflated with other impressions of wine and spirits when used by professionals. Having worked in the English wine and spirits trade for three years, I have found that too often the term 'passion' has been equated to being able to rhyme off names of grand chateaux and estates and a hierarchy of desirable vintages. This obfuscates what makes wines and spirits really great - the art, the blood sweat and tears, and the progressive ideas of winemakers and distillers - in both good and bad vintage years. I do not share the simplistic view that wine and spirits are merely tradeable faceless commodities in a vast marketplace, as I believe they are worthy of rigorous study and discovery by a wider public. In a testament to my past career as an academic, a deep intellectual curiosity about wine and spirits is my prime career motivator. I have never lost sight of my motivation for leaving academia for a career indulging in my love for wine, whisky, rum, and brandy.
