About Jed Brown

I am an early career researcher specialising in the relationship between clinical psychological conditions and modern technology. My PhD study has seen me closely examine how video games offer motivational fulfilment through the lens of self-determination theory, with findings demonstrating the importance of considering why people choose to play when examining the effects of gaming. Through investigating these relationships I am skilled in both qualitative and quantitative research methods and can effectively communicate scientific findings to a variety of audiences. I've applied this research experience practically in within a variety of contexts including: organisational wellbeing, recruitment, and clinical neuropsychology. Through my PhD I have honed my academic research and writing skills, conducting cutting edge research in the field of cyberpsychology and motivation. I have successfully presented my work at the BPS Cyberpsychology section conference in both 2024 and 2025 and look forward to continuing to attend in future. I am also proud to have been an associate lecturer at Bath Spa since 2018 and enjoy delivering engaging seminars to undergraduate students on a variety of topics. Through my work with Headway Bath and IHP Analytics I have been able to apply my research skills to more practical settings, supporting adults with acquired brain injury and working age professionals with their mental health and wellbeing. As a result I am skilled at applying research skills to a variety of practical environments to ensure that a clients' practical targets are reached.
