About Jefferson Morris

I was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, but I also grew up in Kuwait, Pennsylvania, and Montreal, where I studied at McGill University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Sociology, and Sexual Diversity Studies in May 2013. I have also lived in Glasgow, Scotland, where I pursued a Master of Science in Equality & Human Rights on full scholarship at the University of Glasgow. My thesis focused on activism towards curricula inclusive and representative of LGBTQ+ people and issues in US public schools. I am passionate about social justice issues and fighting oppression worldwide, and I hope to devote my career and even my life to doing so, particularly for sexual and gender minorities. I am an expert in LGBTQ2+ subjects and was selected as the LGBTQ2+ Departmental Representative for TBS in June 2018. My core work is Human Resources policy, focused on Diversity and Inclusion. I have been very involved with the Final Report from the Joint Union/Management Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion in the Public Service, in addition to the development of the Public Service-Wide Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and 3-Year Action Plan. Beyond this, I was the lead organizer for LGBTQ2+ Pride Month at my department (TBS) and have emceed the all-staff Retreat for my entire sector twice now. I have extensive experience with education as well, serving as a Reproductive Health Intern for Nexos Voluntarios in Urubamba, Peru for the summer of 2012, teaching English to international students with Camp Wynchemna in 2015, and as an Educational Consultant with Thom Stecher & Associates since 2009. I love educating others, especially youth, and teaching them the skills necessary to improve their life situations - and to secure a better future for minorities globally. I am enthusiastic about travel, meeting new people, learning languages, sexual health, adventure, strategy board games, and reality TV competitions.
