Background
About Jeffrey M.
I grew up on the shores of Lake Erie, for 19 years. My father is a Marine Contractor and owns a tug (Vida-C) and barge outfit on Lake Erie, called Cobby Marine. I participated in building break walls for shoreline protection, dredging and marine construction projects. During my time there I gained experience in rigging, for crane operations. I am a former member of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxillary Central and Arctic Unit, therefore I am experienced and cool headed in emergency situations. After 2 years at Georgian College for Marine Navigation, I was unable to obtain any co-op hours due to a shortage of co-ops. I decided to work my way up the hause pipe. With the majority of the schooling under my belt, I have the confidence to push forward in my personal studies and continue to challenge exams through Transport Canada until I achieve my goal of Master 500GT Unlimited. I obtained my Chief Mate Limited > 60GT and Restricted S.V.M.O. aboard the Capital Cruises boat (Empress of Ottawa) I worked 2 summers to obtain my Master Limited > 60GT and was eventually promoted to Marine Operations Manager in the 2016 season. During the winter season of 2013-2014 I obtained my Bridge Watch Rating in Dartmouth Nova Scotia. When the summer of 2014 came to a close I shipped out with Nadro Marine Services (Tug: Molly M1) in Saint John New Brunswick as O/S doing core samples for the Irving LNG plant and then (Tug: Ecosse) in Broad Cove Newfoundland doing ship assists. When I left Ottawa in September 2016, after 4 wonderful years at Capital Cruises, I yearned for more experience and knowledge so I ventured west to Vancouver. Unfortunately due to financial reasons I was forced to return to Ontario. I spent a few short months on a tour boat in Toronto Harbour before accepting a position with Hornblower Niagara cruises as Mate on their 700 passenger catamarans making the voyage to the Horseshoe Falls. During the winter months, when the tour boats were laid up, I shipped out with Algoma Central Corps. as a wheelsman on the 740’ Algoma Equinox and the 640’ Algoma Innovator. When the pandemic shut down tourism, I decided to go back to my roots working on tugs.
