About Jeffrey Shapiro

Jeffrey is an experienced mediator and arbitrator, who enjoys resolving disputes quickly, inexpensively and respectfully. He has presided at over 1,750 Alternate Dispute Resolution events, including mediations, pre-hearings, complex multiday arbitrations, and/or settlement conferences in government tribunals and court programs. He recently completed eight years as a full-time tribunal adjudicator, including serving from 2017 to 2022 as a Vice-Chair at Tribunal Ontario’s License Appeal Tribunal (LAT). At the LAT, he focused on personal injury claims, including Statutory Accident Benefits (“AB” and “SABS”), medical, disability, functional abilities, work-loss, and insurance coverage issues. His notable decisions include:• Arruda v Western Assurance Co.(FSCO A13-003926, July 7, 2015),[2015] O.F.S.C.D. No. 177, which was a landmark decision on chronic pain, and • v Unica Insurance Inc, 2017 CanLII 15835 (ON LAT), which was approvingly discussed in Morrissey v. Wawanesa Insurance Company, 2022 ONSC 4398 (CanLII), at paras 16-24.Jeffrey began his career as a litigation lawyer practicing law in the U.S. on both plaintiff and defence sides, and has been arbitrating cases for more than 25 years.
