Background

About Jen Ratay

Veteran CEO and leadership coach. Team builder. Facilitator. Passionate about developing high-performing organizations, teams and individuals who create positive social change. Jen co-founded and runs Ratay Consulting Partners, which provides coaching and strategic advising to nonprofit leaders, boards of directors, and philanthropists. Jen is on the board of directors of Northern California Grantmakers. She has served as a lecturer on leadership, philanthropy and nonprofit management at Stanford University and co-taught the Stanford Graduate School of Business course, Critical Analytical Thinking. The Silicon Valley Business Journal named Jen a "Woman of Influence" for her community leadership and also one of Silicon Valley's “40 Under 40” leadership honorees. Jen has facilitated and spoken on panels ranging from the Churchill Club to Stanford PACS at Peking University in China, and been featured in media such as the Stanford Social Innovation Review, Social Velocity, Philanthropy Hour, Gentry Magazine, and the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Jen served as executive director of the Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund (SV2), a community of donors who learn about effective giving while pooling resources to fund social ventures. Under Jen's leadership, SV2 expanded grantmaking and impact investing and launched field-leading educational programs that helped hundreds of donors and their families become more strategic, confident and generous in their philanthropy. While serving as a program officer at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Jen worked with the foundation's leadership team on organization-wide strategy, evaluation and learning. She also built a grantmaking program to help nonprofits strengthen their effectiveness and managed Office of the President grants. Jen’s 25 years in the social sector also includes working for a U.S. Congressman, the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, and the Center for Social Innovation at Stanford's Graduate School of Business.
