Certified Surgical Technician SURGICAL TECH SKILLS & ABILITIES PRE-OPERATIVE • Pick case supplies and equipment • Utilize surgeon preference card • Secure/arrange equipment • Create sterile field • Open sterile supplies • Obtain necessary surgical gowns, gloves and PPE • Organize surgical fields including back table and mayo • Perform required opening counts • Gown & Glove Surgeon INTRA-OPERATIVE • Drape patient, set up field • Pass instruments/supplies • Maintain operative field sterility • Stabilize retractors, scopes, trocars, limbs/digits, suture/ligament, etc. • Handle Specimen care • Perform required closing counts • Track & report solution and pharmacologic usage on field • Monitor sharps • Apply Skin Stapler as needed POST-OPERATIVE • Apply dressing & drains, • Break down sterile field, • Properly dispose of sharps and one time use Bio-hazard supplies • Assist transfer of patient to gurney • Prepare instruments for decontamination • Turn-over OR room and OR equipment • Transport case-cart to decontamination unit/SPD
