About Jessica Connon

Over my five years at university, I have developed excellent written and verbal communication skills. Most recently, I graduated from the University of Glasgow with a postgraduate degree in Psychological Studies (MSc). Studying Psychology at a master’s level has provided me with the knowledge required to begin my career as an assistant psychologist or a research assistant. During my masters I produced various research papers (both quantitative and qualitative), focusing on different mental health conditions, from depression to post traumatic stress disorder. In these papers I explored the treatment of these disorders, as well as the stigma and possible discrimination surrounding them. As a result, I understand the importance of providing high quality care to those suffering from these conditions. Furthermore, for my master’s dissertation, I decided to focus on mind-body therapies as a complementary treatment for the symptoms of PTSD. This independent, dissertation earned me an A and inspired me to further my yoga teacher training to include trauma sensitive yoga. This training showed me the importance of providing a safe environment for trauma survivors where they can find empowerment and restore self-agency. Previous work experience has developed my interpersonal skills further. Working internationally as an English Teacher in Vietnam for up to 25 young adults taught me to be extremely patient and adaptable. While working as a carer for a young boy with autism and challenging behaviour has provided me with the ability to relate to and empathise well with others. In both these roles, I received very little supervision and contact time with management and therefore I was often expected to use my own judgement and initiative in situations. As a result, I have learned to be extremely self-motivated and reliable. Overall, I believe that my knowledge, experience, and skills would make me an ideal candidate for the role of an assistant psychologist or a research assistant.
