About Jim Kunce

Dedicated to the parks and recreation profession for over 33 years, I obtained a bachelors degree in recreation and park administration from the University of Missouri - Columbia and additional graduate work at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. I have experienced working with some of the finest agencies within our profession, including Walt Disney World, the Florida Conservation Corps, Miami-Dade County, Florida Parks & Recreation Department, Kansas City, Missouri, Parks, Recreation and Boulevards, Platte County, Missouri, Parks and Recreation Department, and Missouri State Parks. Today I work with the nationally ranked Missouri State Parks system as the superintendent of the Lewis & Clark State Park. I also serve in a volunteer capacity as an appointed park board commissioner for my former employer, Platte County, Missouri, Board of Park Commissioners. Having served as the Assistant Director of Platte County Parks for over 12 years, the County Commission felt I would be an important asset to the appointed board, and I was very honored to accept the appointment. Learning to be flexible and willing to take on new challenges in the parks profession is an important requirement in having a successful parks career, and this has been very important to the longevity and success of my own career. I have had experience working with many aspects of parks and recreation, including constructing new park facilities; coordinating project with other agencies; manage fiscal and project budgets; planning, organizing, leading and evaluating recreational programs; working with natural resource preservation, cultural and historic preservation, and many other unique areas of the parks profession. My parks and recreation career path has been, and continues to be very enjoyable and rewarding for me.
