Spent over 40 years in corporate finance (Kidder Peabody; Merrill Lynch Capital Markets) and in private equity fund management with, among others: Franklin-Street Fairview funds I and II; The Halifax Group (a founding GP); Cherokee Investment Partners (as contracting partner); and, various one-off transactions. Currently a Trustee of the NC Public Employees' Supplemental Retirement System (~$17B AUM). Sponsored or co-sponsored more than 40 private transactions in LBO/growth and consolidation, biotech, IT, drug development and real property (including founder and Managing Partner of Magnolia Development, acquirer of more than 500 acres contaminated land in the "neck" area of Charleston SC. Managed the team responsible for reclamation of the fabled Macalloy Superfund site, returning it to productive use in a record-setting 18 months. Also led efforts to establish a major TIF district (tax increment financing) benefiting the wider region. Numerous public, private and non-profit boards, including stints as Chairman of the North Carolina Museum of Art Foundation and Chairman of the Raleigh Arts Commission.
