About Jj Lee

JJ Lee is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Art at OCAD University. She teaches a range of courses at OCAD University, from First-Year to Graduate Studies. Her leadership experience includes Chair of First Year Art and currently is Chair for Drawing and Painting. Lee has contributed to several committees, notably Senate, ODESI Equity Advisory and Decolonizing Studio Education. She has been a Board Director in OCADFA. Her advocacy for equity and valuable contributions have resulted in the successful implementation of initiatives like Drawing Across Disciplines. In 2022, Lee was awarded the Price Award for Leadership in Teaching from OCAD University. Through mixed media paintings and drawing installations, JJ Lee examines the space between identities that emerge from colonization and immigration on subsequent generations. Her artistic endeavors have garnered recognition and awards, with exhibitions hosted by public institutions and artist-run centers over the last 30 years. Lee has received numerous accolades and grants for her individual work as well as her collaborative efforts with The Drawing Board collective with N. Waldburger and A. Swartz. Her artistic contributions have been acquired by public and private collections in North America. She is represented by Prow Gallery (Halifax, NS), and Gallery on Queen (Fredericton, NB). Lee currently has a multi-media exhibition at the Pier21 Museum of Immigration documenting her ancestors’ immigration to Canada. WEBSITE
