About Joanne Marks

A good strategic thinker with extensive experience of finding solutions and achieving results. My work experience in the voluntary, corporate and public sector has given me a broad understanding and an ability to work with different people in a range of complex situations. I have an enduring commitment to addressing social justice. My adult life has included paid and unpaid work around housing and homelessness, rape and sexual abuse, domestic violence, and disability discrimination. I try and work on providing a solution for the individual, whilst addressing the policy and structural issues to deliver wider reaching results for all people affected. I have worked for many years as a successful fundraiser for a national charity. My primary focus was securing statutory funding, including multi million pound contracts with the DCLG, Ministry of Justice and with local authorities. I also have successful experience securing large grants from trusts and foundations, from the corporate sector, and with individual giving appeals and events. Throughout my career I have held positions as a Board member and management committee member, and have held roles on the Governance and Finance committees, and have led on recruitment for CEO roles. I moved away from my career in London to work in Cornwall, where I grew up and live. I have held public sector roles at Cornwall Housing and at Cornwall Council, where I worked as a commissioning manager in Adult Social Care services. As a contract to much of my career in the social sector, I moved across to the Commercial Directorate and took responsibility for managing the complex multi million PFI (Private Finance Initiative) contracts. These included both infrastructure and service delivery for 39 Fire stations, 23 schools and Leisure services. My current role is a return to my roots in social care, I am a programme manager, providing strategic oversight of the most complex and costly of the projects in the Adult Social Care directorate.
