About Jockum Lundsten

I’m an experienced maritime professional working at Aboa Mare as a VTS & GMDSS Lead Instructor and System & Training Specialist. My background combines practical maritime work and training experience, with a strong interest in system development and digital tools for the maritime field. Right now, my work includes-Leading simulator-based courses for VTS and GMDSS, following international standards-Acting as a subject expert and instructor for mariners and maritime students-Supporting the technical and teaching development of maritime training systems-Creating course plans, simulator scenarios, and working on quality improvements-Working together with international partners, including through IALA working groups. Before this role, I worked as a VTS Operator, Chief Officer, and System Specialist, so I know the maritime field from the inside. I hold a BSc in Maritime Studies and recently completed a second BSc in Industrial Engineering. Soon, I’ll start my MSc studies in engineering, focusing on Professional Project Management. I also lead a task group within IALA, where we look at how stress and trauma affect VTS work and how to build more resilient and safe services. I’m very passionate about supporting future maritime professionals through training and simulation, and about how digital tools can improve the work we do at sea.
