Joel is a nationally recognized corporate compliance and ethics professional and authority on compliance and ethics programs in Financial Services and Higher Education. He is a frequent speaker at national compliance conferences where he has lectured on topics including regulatory examinations, the design, implementation, and monitoring of corporate ethics & compliance programs, conflicts of interest, risk mitigation, effective communitation, team building, and leading with integrity. A creative and effective problem solver, Joel has tapped into over two decades of courtroom success as a prosecutor and commercial litigator to develop the ability to quickly recognize, evaluate and adapt to dynamic events and competing pressures while providing consistently reliable strategic guidance despite often incomplete and conflicting information. Within his first months at HESAA (a nonprofit multi-billion dollar student loan financial services entity), he developed and delivered a comprehensive compliance program resulting in a series of successful federal program reviews in the highly regulated student lending industry. Joel also directed HESAA's data privacy program. Before joining HESAA, Joel had a distinguished legal career highlighted by over 100 jury trials and the successful resolution of several complex commercial litigation matters. As an Assistant Prosecutor with the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Joel held several positions of progressively greater responsibility and authority, eventually becoming Supervisor of the Narcotics Strike Force where he directed long term, high profile undercover narcotics investigations.
